About the role
Own Liftify’s data layer end to end — from raw source data to the trusted models our team, customer success, and eventually our clients make decisions on.
We’re hiring our first dedicated Data Engineer to own everything between raw source data (Postgres plus 100+ external systems) and the analytics-ready models people use to answer questions and make decisions.
You’ll be the primary owner and decision-maker for the data layer. The rest of engineering participates through review and consumption — the modeling, pipelines, warehouse, and semantic layer are yours to design and evolve.
Your work will progress through three audiences: near-term, our product manager, who builds the charts and dashboards that drive product and business decisions today; medium-term, our customer success team; long-term, our clients, exploring their own data through embedded dashboards in the Liftify product.
The data layer has to keep up with where the product is going. As we move deeper into lead management — appointment reminders, lead-form follow-up, loyalty campaigns — the analytics surface grows from “what happened after the job” to “what’s happening across the full customer lifecycle.” Multi-tenancy and data isolation are first-class concerns from day one; you’ll be designing for a future where customers query their slice of the warehouse directly.
What you’ll do
- Design and build the modeling layer that turns raw operational data — jobs, customers, reviews, leads, messages, campaign engagement — into analytics-ready, well-documented, trusted models.
- Own the cloud data warehouse decision (Snowflake, BigQuery, or other) and stand it up.
- Build and operate the pipelines that move data into the warehouse from Postgres, field service systems, CRMs, review and listing site APIs, and communication providers like Twilio and SendGrid.
- Partner closely with our product manager on the semantic layer in Omni, then progressively hand off chart-building to customer success and, eventually, clients.
- Model the lifecycle data behind our growing lead management surface area so the team can measure what’s working and clients can see results.
- Establish the patterns for multi-tenant data isolation that will let us safely expose customer data through embedded analytics.
- Collaborate with engineering on integration architecture without becoming a gatekeeper — product operations needs to keep building custom integrations with significant flexibility.
What we’re looking for
- 6–10+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a closely related role.
- A full-stack analytics engineer profile — comfortable across modeling, pipelines, and warehouse infrastructure. Startup backgrounds especially welcome.
- Strong SQL and dimensional or semantic modeling fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience standing up and operating a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar).
- Comfort owning architectural decisions and defending trade-offs.
- A track record of designing for non-engineering consumers — analysts, operators, and end customers.
Nice to have
- Experience modeling customer lifecycle, marketing, or messaging data (engagement, attribution, funnel analytics).
- Experience with multi-tenant data architecture.
- Experience with Omni or a similar modern semantic-layer BI tool (Looker, Cube).
Tech stack
- BI / semantic layer: Omni — required, and it stays.
- Warehouse: your call. Snowflake, BigQuery, or another modern cloud warehouse, chosen in partnership with the team.
- Modeling: TBD.
- Source data: PostgreSQL 16, plus 100+ external systems via API — field service software, CRMs, review and listing site APIs, Twilio, and SendGrid.
- Application stack you’ll interoperate with: Ruby on Rails 7, Sidekiq, Rails Event Store.
